Can't I just use any litter pan?
Sure! This is just our top recommendation because it can attach to the cage and can be used with, or without the wire floor. We do recommend that you look for a litter pan that attaches to the cage so it can't be pushed around or dumped. |
Pee Rocks
What is a "pee rock"?
A "pee rock" is simply a smooth, non-porous flat rock around the size of the back of your hand that is placed in each litter box. Rats like to pee on the smooth rock (presumably because they like putting their scent on the rock) and are more eager to pee in the litter pan. You should place one pee rock in each litter box in the cage. Where do I get pee rocks? Most stores that sell aquarium furnishings and decorations will have these large smooth rocks. You can also find them yourself near or in rivers and large creeks. If you do find your own rocks, be sure to sterilize them by boiling them in a pot of water and letting them cool completely before giving them to your rats. |
What not to give your rats:
Rats can not digest alfalfa or timothy hay, therefore we encourage you to avoid the following products and others like them.
